Shot peening is a process specifically designed to enhance the fatigue strength of components which are subject to high alternating stress. Surface treatment procedure like grinding, milling, bending or heat treatment procedures cause tensile residual stress. Shot peening converts tensile residual stress into compressive residual stress which leads to significant increase in the life cycle of parts.
The essential component of a satellite table machine is the indexing mechanism which rotates the workpiece through fixed positions within the blasting machine. Smaller symmetrical parts are best processed in this kind of machine for example:
- Gears
- Engine disks
- Shafts
- Pans
- Pots
- Brake and clutch disks
The satellite table machine provides the advantage that new parts can be loaded while others are processed. Besides the traditionally fixed indexing turntables there are machine types with one or two mobile indexing turntables.
A speciality of Wheelabrator Group is satellite table machines with one or two swing-in turntables at the front of the blasting cabinet. This machine type not only allows the operator freedom for other activities, but also significantly reduces the space requirement for the machine. Each turntable can handle loads of up to 5000 kg.
Wheelabrator provides highly precise satellite table machines which are specifically designed for use in the automotive and aerospace industries. These machines can be combined with robots for automatic loading and unloading, creating fully integrated manufacturing cells.
